Dublin Shopping

Visitors to Dublin will no doubt delight in the variety of shopping available within the city itself as well as surrounding areas. Like most of the larger cities throughout Ireland and the UK, brand name and department stores are well represented, several of which can be found on Grafton Street and Henry Street within the City Centre area. The major shopping centres in Dublin include Jervis, The Square, Ilac, Stephens Green, Blanchardstown and Dundrum.

The most popular of the shopping streets within Dublin are those that border the River Liffey. On the north side, tourists will want to check out the main streets of O'Connell, (and the pedestrian thoroughfare, Prince's Street) Henry Street and Talbot Street. O'Connell Street also offers several tourist-friendly shops that mainly sell souvenirs of the area and culture. On the south side is Grafton Street as well as the Temple Bar area of the city. Grafton is known for its' upscale and designer shops, and ends at the top at Stephens Green Shopping Centre. The Temple Bar area is well known for its' pubs and eateries, but is also home to many unusual and trendy clothing shops, music stores and even a few photo and art galleries.

Dublin also maintains a thriving market culture. The oldest of these is the market on Moore Street, which has been operating since 1914 and considered a landmark of the city. In addition, there are seasonal outdoor markets in several communities as well as the Dublin Food Co-op, which offers vegetarian delights, organic wines and cheeses, homemade artisan breads and more.

For visitors who enjoy searching for "treasures", Dublin is a wonderful place to shop for vintage, antique and collectible items. There are more than a dozen charity shops maintained by charities such as the Irish Cancer Society and St. Vincent de Paul, as well as a variety of antique stores, many of which can be found on Francis Street.
